-A Six-Man Rotation Is A Good Bet

on

Earler this week, Terry Collins made the announcement that the Mets are going to be trying out a six-man rotation for the rest of the season.

Starting Sunday will be Jeremy Hefner who will be able to give Johan and Chris Young, both coming off major shoulder surgery a chance to extra rest along with Jon Niese who has never finished a full season. I think that a bet like this, much like the MLB betting on Top Bet is a really good one for the Mets.

With the injury concerns of Santana, Young and even Niese, the Mets are trying to make sure they can finish the season with the guys that have been mainstays in the rotation since May. Plus with Harvey on an innings limit in only his 2nd professional season, the Mets are trying to get as many starts as they can from him with six weeks left in the season.

As you can see on Mets.com the only pitcher that wont be affected by this is CY Young Candidate R.A. Dickey who will be working on regular rest as he goes for the first 20 win season for the Mets since 1990 and the Mets first CY Young since Brett Saberhagen’s in 1994.

I think the one key in this whole decision is actually how well Jeremy Hefner has pitched as a starter this season. Im sure his success made it easier for Terry Collins to insert him into the rotation for the rest of the season.

The six man rotation may not have been the greatest situation when you first heard about it, but I think that this is one bet that the Mets wonr crap out on.
