It looks like the case against Mets’ closer Jeurys Familia will be dropped, according to the New York Times.
The attorney for Bianca Rivas, Familia’s wife, said as much after he pleaded not guilty to domestic violence charges on Thursday.
Asked if Rivas wished to drop the charge, her lawyer, Cathy Fleming, answered, “She’s dropping it,” and then declined further comment.
From the NY Times article: Regardless of whether the criminal charge is dropped, Major League Baseball, under its new domestic violence policy, can still choose to suspend Familia after investigating the matter. It suspended Mets infielder Jose Reyes (who was then with the Colorado Rockies) for 51 games last season in connection with a domestic violence incident in Hawaii in which criminal charges were ultimately dropped.
