Did You Know: Bruce Bochy Played for the Mets

on

Did you know that Bruce Bochy was a Met?

I sure as hell did’t until this morning, when I looked at one of my favorite new sites, the Ultimate Met Database.

Thirty-four years ago, the Mets acquired Bochy from the Astros for Stan Hough and Randy Rogers. The man known for being one of baseball’s best managers and a multi-time World Series winner wasn’t exactly a Met to remember.

In 1982, his only year he saw at-bats with the club, Bochy got just 49 at-bats, hitting .306 with 2 homers and 8 RBI in 17 games. He played 16 games at catcher and one at first base during his brief tenure. He was released on Jan. 21, 1983.

The rest is history.
