Dillon Gee Placed on DL With Blood Clot

on

As reports begin to circulate that Mets right-hander Dillon Gee with a clot in his right shoulder. The Mets will make the move to put Dillon Gee on the disabled list immediately. This is a much more serious issue that anything baseball related and really puts the game into perspective that it is in fact ‘just a game’, on behalf of the entire staff of The Daily Stache, we wish Dillon the best and for a speedy recovery.

Earlier today the Mets released this statement:

“On Sunday, Dillon Gee complained of numbness in the fingers of his right hand. Yesterday, after extensive testing, Dillon was found to have a clot in an artery in his right shoulder and doctors at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City used a catheter to break up the clot. Dillon will remain hospitalized for the next day or two to ensure that the clot is fully resolved. Dillon will not make his next start and will be placed on the disabled list. The timing of his return to baseball activity is currently undetermined.”

This isn’t the first time something like this has happened in baseball or more specifically to the Mets, if you recall Tom Glavine had a similar issue back in 2006, but was not out as long as anticipated. In 2005 left-handed reliever Felix Heredia also had a clotting issue and ended his Mets’ career. Let’s hope it’s the Glavine situation when it comes to Dillon Gee.

-Potential Reaction Moves After the Break-

The Mets have several options to make a corresponding roster move, as ESPN New York’s Adam Rubin states the Mets will not need a starter until July 21, since the Mets do have an off day on this upcoming Monday. As Rubin also says the Mets may call up a reliever in the person of Josh Edgin who is pitching well at Buffalo after starting the year at Binghamton.

With Edgin the Mets would have to make a corresponding roster move to make room on the 40-man roster for Edgin, which would almost certainly be Chris Schwinden being designated for assignment once again so he can begin yet another roller coaster type trip.

When the Mets do need a starter they could keep Miguel Batista and put him in the rotation with Edgin in the bullpen. Another move would be to call up Schwinden and make him the spot starter for the time being a move that most Mets’ fans won’t like.

The final move would be to bring back Jeremy Hefner who was recently optioned to Buffalo, Hefner could be used out of the bullpen for a few games then slot him right into the rotation which I feel would be the best move.

And I know there will be an outburst if I don’t bring up Matt Harvey, but I feel he is not quite there as is the case with many people who follow the Mets on a close level. Harvey would need to be added on the 40-man roster and also Sandy Alderson said in his interview on SNY this past Sunday that Harvey could get called up eventually this season but later rather than sooner, which to me says September call up.
