FLUSHING, N.Y., March 5, 2019 – The New York Mets announced today that Jessica Mendoza has been named a baseball operations advisor for the club.
In her new role, Mendoza will provide insight to Executive Vice President & General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen as well as the entire Baseball Operations Department. Her focus will be in the areas of player evaluation, roster construction, technological advancement and health and performance. This comes in addition to her role as an analyst for ESPN Sunday Night Baseball, a position she has occupied since 2016.
“Jessica is incredibly well respected throughout the industry and we are excited to bring her into the organization,” Van Wagenen said. “She is a world-class athlete and experienced television analyst with an extremely high baseball IQ. We are confident that she will help us in our efforts to win now and in the future. This hire demonstrates the continued support from ownership to invest in the intellectual capital of the New York Mets.”
After joining ESPN in 2007, Mendoza has worked on various ESPN productions including Monday Night Baseball, the LittleLeague World Series coverage on ABC, the Men’s College World Series and the Women’s College World Series. She hasalso served as a sideline reporter for college football and has contributed content to espnW. Mendoza broke barriers when she became the first female analyst for a nationally televised MLB Postseason game on October 6, 2015 during the American League Wild Card Game on ESPN.
“Jessica has a tremendous knowledge of the game,” said Mets COO Jeff Wilpon. “She will be able to provide a different perspective to the club and help assist in a variety of roles within the Baseball Operations Department.”

Mendoza is a two-time Olympian and was a member of the U.S. Women’s National team from 2001-2010. Her team took home the Gold Medal in Athens, Greece (2004) and the Silver Medal in Beijing, China (2008). She is both a three-time World Champion (2002, 2006, 2010) and World Cup Champion (2006, 2007, 2010), in addition to being a two-time Pan American Gold Medalist (2003, 2007). In 2006, she was named the USA Softball Athlete of the Year and was alsorecognized in 2008 as the Women’s Sports Foundation Sportswoman of the Year.
The Camarillo, California native graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies in 2002 and a Masters in Social Sciences in Education in 2003.
