Fan Who Ran on Field Barred from Citi for Life

As out friends at NBC said, if you’re going to run on the field, the Mets’ first no-hitter is a pretty good time to do it.

For one man though, the cost may be a bit tough to swallow. The man, who was decked out in a Gary Carter jersey, was tackled before he could get to Mets’ ace Johan Santana. At this moment, his home is a holding cell until Monday, according to sources.

Those same sources told the Daily Stache that the man is facing $8,000 in fines for his stunt (that includes the cost of legal fees) and he has been banned from Citi Field for life. I’ve been on the field, but with security amped up, it doesn’t seem like the risk was worth the reward he now has to live with.

As for the Carter connection, it’s beginning to get eerie how much the number “8” is playing into things. Here’s what we have to far: The Mets had 8 runs on 8 hits. Santana struck out 8 batters during the game, and the man wearing Gary Carter’s number 8 jersey faces an $”8″K fine for his efforts after the game’s final out was recorded.

Who knows? I’m not sure if I believe that a higher power can have an impact on a night like this, but it certainly feels like the spirit of Gary Carter was in the building.
