Mets Make Below the Surface Signing

on

Left handed relief is on the way!

Many Mets fans including myself have been clamoring for another left handed reliever considering we only have one on the roster. History has proven that has not worked out well. Just ask Pedro Feliciano, Tim Byrdak and Scott Rice.

Sandy signed Duane Below to a minor league contract with NO invite to spring training. Yes, that sound you may be hearing would be that of a deflating tire. Duane Below? Who the heck is he? I like to think of myself as fairly current with most teams rosters as well as some of their minor league up and coming players. However this name doesn’t ring a bell and with a last name like Below that scares me.

On the high side he is young and as mentioned a lefty. Between ’11-13 he has 43 major-league appearances with Detroit and Miami with a record of 2-4 and a 4.27 ERA and he was 8-5 last year with Triple-A Toledo and a sub 4 ERA. Not a bad signing to keep the farm system solid.

So who knows with this guy like I said I’m kind of surprised I have never heard of him. However, I can guarantee you that if this guy does eventually crack the big league roster you will know the name if he does well or struggles.

I can already imagine the fun various media outlets will have with this one. “Below average” “Below the curve” “Below par”.
