Mets Need Jacob deGrom to Keep Being Jacob deGrom

Jacob deGrom is 5-1 with a 1.23 ERA (eight earned runs/58.2 innings) with six walks and 63 strikeouts over his last eight starts dating to May 16. He has the lowest ERA, is tied for the second-fewest walks and is tied for the eighth-most strikeouts in the majors since May 16 (minimum 35 innings).

Since June 21, 2014, deGrom has posted a 2.07 ERA, (46 earned runs/199.2 innings) which is the lowest mark in the majors. He is 17-7 during that span. The 17 wins are tied for the fifth-most in the majors over that span.

DeGrom leads the majors with a 0.74 ERA (three earned runs/36.1 innings) during the day this year (minimum 20.0 innings). He is 4-0 in five daytime starts this year and is 8-0 with a 1.21 ERA (11 earned runs/81.2 innings) in 12 career daytime starts, the best such ERA in the majors since last season (minimum 50 innings).

DeGrom is 5-1 with a 1.33 ERA (eight earned runs/54 innings) at home this year. He is tied for second in the NL with five home victories. He is 10-1 with a 1.29 ERA (14 earned runs/97.1 innings) in his last 14 starts at Citi Field.

DeGrom has posted a 2-0 mark with a 0.42 ERA (one earned run/21.1 innings) in three home starts during the day this year. He is 3-0 with a 0.51 ERA (two earned runs/35.0 innings) in five career home starts during the day.

DeGrom is the fourth pitcher in Mets history to record seven straight outings of 7 or more innings, allowing two earned runs or fewer. He joins Tom Seaver (had such a streak four times), Jerry Koosman (twice) and Dwight Gooden (once). DeGrom has pitched 7.0 or more innings in a career-high seven straight games dating to May 21. The last Mets pitcher to throw 7 or more innings in seven straight starts was Mike Hampton (July 9-August 12, 2000). The last to do so in eight consecutive starts was Al Leiter, from August 10-September 20, 1998.
