Pedro Martinez Loves Mets Fans…Out of Sympathy

on

Pedro Martinez has been working hard lately trying to rebuild his rapport with the fan base after he made some awkward comments about the Mets after his Hall of Fame press conference.

“Queens, they’re wild, they’re happy,” Martinez joked. “They settle for what they’ve got. Yankees fans cannot. Win or nothing. Win or nothing. And they’re going to boo you and they’re going to call you ‘Who’s your daddy?’ They’re going to chant until you just go away. But I built a great relationship while being with the Mets.”

Huh?

Pedro was completely off base. If this Wilpon becoming the chairman of MLB Finance’s Committee story and Super Sized Scoreboard story prove nothing else is that we are constantly striving for more, because we are sick and tired of the status quo.

Some fans were not thrilled when Pedro took to Twitter Tuesday night and showed his support for his original team, the Montreal Expos. Mets fans, like we often do, gave him some grief, so he threw us a bone.

You helped turn this franchise around when you signed prior to the 2005 season, but you’ve managed to annoy Mets fans lately, myself included. Congratulations on making the Hall of Fame, but don’t try to patronize the fans. We know the Mets are at least ninth on your list.

At least we know who your daddy is.
