Post Game: Braves 8 Mets 7

on

Dickey had a rough start today.

Today the Mets lost a close one to Atlanta 8-7. This was a game that the Mets should have won, as they had a 2 run lead with 2 outs in the 8th inning. This loss ensures a series loss to the Braves.

RA Dickey struggled today, allowing 5 runs in 5 innings. Josh Edgin struck out the side in his innning, and Bobby Parnell, Tim Byrdak and Pedro Beato combined to allow 3 runs in the 8th inning to allow the Braves to take the lead.

David Wright  had a poor day striking out 4 times, and Ike Davis  hit a solo homer. Torres had 3 hits and Tejada, Valdespin, Davis and Thole all had 2 hits a piece. Overall this was an impressive day for the Mets offensively yet it was not enough to get past Atlanta. Craig Kimbrel struck out the side in the 9th to get the save. Lucas Duda looked absolutely clueless in his at bat against Kimbrel.

It is very important that the Mets win tomorrow to avoid the sweep. Losing 3 games in a row to a division rival would not be a great way to start the 2nd half. Santana will take on Ben Sheets in the series finale tomorrow. After the series with Atlanta the Mets will head to Washington which will be no easy task.
