Pre Game: Mets vs Padres

on

Dickey was spectacular last start against the Pirates.

This afternoon the Mets take on the Padres in game 3 of this Memorial Day weekend series.  Along with their being a game today, one of the best traditions in baseball is reborn.  Banner Day has been resurrected and will be held for the first time at Citi Field.  I was nicely, or NOT so nicely, asked by Mets management to refrain from using any harsh language or promote a website on my banner.  So today my banner will be fan friendly and just say “Let’s Go Mets!…..F@!& the Yankees, #£$k you Braves and suck it phillies!”. Your right, that won’t fly.  But in twitter universe, everyday is banner day #BlameBeltran.

Yesterday afternoon, Johan Santana was absolutely awesome, going the distance on a 4 hit shutout.  This was Johan’s first shutout since mid 2010 against the Rockies.  Scott Hairston and Vinny Rottino gave the Mets an early lead with homers, and Mike Nickeas capped it all off with a grand slam.  The Mets took game 2 of the series 9-0.

Today RA Dickey (6-1 3.45 ERA) will face Edinson Volquez (2-4 3.49 ERA).  Game time is1:10pm, and can be seen on SNY and heard on WFAN 660 AM

Pitching Matchup

RA Dickey (6-1 3.45 ERA) takes the hill for the Mets today.  Dickey has been great in his past 6 starts.  RA has gone 4-0 with a 2.48 ERA.  Not only has RA had great command of the knuckler, he has had his strikeout game working as well.  Last time out against the Pirates, Dickey struck out a career high 11 batters.

For the Padres, Edinson Volquez (2-4 3.49 ERA) mans the mound this afternoon.  Volquez has pitched pretty well for the Padres so far this year, but has. Of gotten any run support.  Volquez has been getting a league low 1.82 runs of support per game.
