Pre-Game: Miami Marlins (66-86) @ New York Mets (68-83)

on

***WARNING*** This is NOT an Onion article.  This is factual.  The New York Mets are going for a series sweep today against the Miami Marlins.

That’s right folks, the Mets will attempt to win three games in a row today against the same team.  The Mets entered this series 4-24 at home following the break but now could win three straight at Citi Field for the first time since a four-game run June 18-22, according to Yahoo! Sports.  I actually watched yesterday’s game and had a warm and fuzzy feeling inside until the 9th inning, which has pretty much been the story for 50 years of Mets baseball.  But luckily for R.A. Dickey, after Jon Rauch coughed up a 3 run homer, he managed to had over Dickey’s 19th win of the season,

This afternoon at 1:10pm, Chris Young (4-8 4.37 ERA) will face off against Rickey Nolasco (12-12 4.42 ERA).  The game can be seen on WPIX (if you don’t have Cablevision) and heard on WFAN 660 AM.

Starting Lineups

Still waiting for the Marlins to wake up from their night at Scores….will post lineup when it becomes available.

***UPDATE***

Who’s HOT for the Mets?…Scott Hairston is 5 for his last 16 with 2 homers and 4 RBI
Who’s HOT for the Marlins?…Jose Reyes is 10 for his last 26 with 2 RBI

Pitching Matchup

Chris Young (4-8 4.37 ERA) will be on the hill for the Mets today.  Young has pitched well over the last month.   Chris has a 3.06 ERA over his last seven starts, but only one win during that stretch.  A September 2nd victory over the Marlins.  Giancarlo Stanton is 3 for 5 with two homers against Young this year, but his status for today’s game is still unclear.

Ricky Nolasco (12-12 4.42 ERA) gets the start for the Marlins.  The Mets have always handled Nolasco.  He’s 0-2 with a 4.62 ERA in his last four starts against the Mets.  The fish have lost all four of those games.  According to Yahoo! Sports, David Wright has more homers off him – five – than any other pitcher and has hit .400 (24 for 60) against the right-hander. He’s 6 for 13 versus Nolasco since the start of last season, including a homer when the Mets last faced him May 12.
