Queens Cooking: Bring Aaron to Flushing

on

With news breaking that the Phillies have opted against keeping Aaron Cook on the roster, one wonders whether the Mets would consider bringing him to Flushing.

There’s uncertainty surrounding Johan Santana’s availability, and now it looks like Shawn Marcum will begin the season on the disabled list. Are you comfortable with 40 percent of your rotation being Jeremy Hefner and Aaron Laffey?

Neither am I.

Cook didn’t really make too much sense for a team like Philly. His strengths are more conducive to a team with a large ballpark, such as the Mets. He’s a sinker-baller who has had solid seasons, and remember, his best days were in Colorado.

His best season came in 2008, when he was 16-9 with a 3.96 ERA. For his career, Cook is 76-79 with a 4.60 ERA.

Is he worth a flier on a minor-league deal? As Jerry Manuel answered every question with…no question.

One thing is for sure. He won’t be out of work for long.

But do you think the Mets should bring him in? Tell us in the comments section below.
