Rafael Montero Emerges from Oblivion

The Mets will recall RHP Rafael Montero from Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League prior to tonight’s game.

Montero will wear #50 and will start tonight. A corresponding roster move will made. Montero, 25, was 4-2 with a 1.70 ERA (nine ER/47.2 IP) in eight starts at Binghamton. He issued 19 walks and struck out 38.

Montero opened the year with Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League, going 4-6 with a 7.20 ERA (64 ER/80.0 IP) in 16 starts. Montero appeared in two games in relief for the Mets in April and allowed three runs in 2.1 innings.

Montero made one start last year, April 28 at Miami. He worked 5.2 innings in a no-decision and allowed five hits, three runs, earned. Montero issued one walk and struck out six. He made eight starts for the Mets in 2014.
