The Secret Service Was Ready To Shoot Mr. Met

on

In the new book by former Mr. Met performer and current ESPN.com writer A.J. Mass called “Yes, It’s Hot in Here”, A. J. discusses the time that the Secret Service detail for former President Bill Clinton told him that they would go for the kill shot.

Here is part of the story from an article on Gawker

On April 15, Bill Clinton attended the game to honor the 50th anniversary of Jackie Robinson’s first appearance in the majors. “The holy grail for all mascots — a photo op and meet-and-greet with a sitting president,” Mass wrote.

Alas, the mascot would never get his photo op. Mass said Secret Service agents approached him before Clinton arrived and told him to stay away from the president.

“We have snipers all around the stadium, just in case something were to happen. Like I said, do whatever it is you normally do. But approach the President, and we go for the kill shot. Are we clear?” the agent reportedly said, while looking into Mr. Met’s “very soul with his blank, unblinking stare.”

The agent then repeated himself. “Approach the president, and we go for the kill shot,” the agent told Mass. “ARE–WE–CLEAR?’

Apparently the story goes that the Secret Service got very suspicious when Maas could not get Mr. Met’s head through the metal detector without setting it off.

This is a story that you would never hear about except in a book of this nature. It has gotten incredible press recently and it sounds like a fantastic book to pick up as soon as you can.

Who else but Mr. Met could elicit such a response from the men whose sole mission is to protect the President.

Although we have to think that the Philly Phanatic is really the only one truly capable of doing something as crazy as trying to harm our President.

Just look at him (pictured above), would you trust him around the leader of the free world?

We know that we wouldn’t.
