Subway Series Finale: Pre-Game New York Mets (32-28) @ New York Yankees (33-25)

on

This afternoon in the Boogie Down, the Mets look to avoid being swept by the Yankees.  Last night Dillon Gee pitched pretty well, but the one mistake he made wound up being the deciding blow.  In the 6th inning, he hung a curveball to Mark Teixeira for a mammoth 345 ft homer into the power alley in right field.  In the other 29 stadiums in MLB, that ball doesn’t reach the warning track.  But anyway, the Mets missed countless mistakes by Phil Huges and fell 4-2.  Today Jon Niese (4-2, 4.11 ERA) will face off against admitted HGH user, Andy Pettitte (3-2 2.78 ERA).

Once again, thank you MLB.  The game is on TBS at 1pm, but luckily can be heard on WFAN 660 AM.

Pitching Matchup

For the Mets, Jon Niese  (4-2, 4.11 ERA) is going to try to stop the bleeding.  In Niese’s last outing, he was great.  Jon went 6 innings, allowing no runs, and 6 hits while striking out 10.  In one career start against the Yanks, Niese is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA.

On the mound for the Yanks is Andy Pettitte (3-2 2.78 ERA).  In Pettitte’s last 3 starts at home he’s 3-0 with a 0.81 ERA. In his last start, Andy had 10 strikeouts. That HGH must be working wonders this year.  In his career against the Mets, Pettitte is 8-5 with a 3.69 ERA in 19 starts.
