Subway Series Game 2 Pre-Game” New York Mets (32-27) @ New York Yankees (32-25)

Well, Johan Santana is NOT Johnny Vander Meer.  That’s ok, because Vander Meer was a good, not great pitcher.  With the 4 homers given up (including the back-to-back-to-back homers in the 4th inning), Santana tied a career high for homers allowed in a game.  But it’s only one game of 162.  Time to move on.  Tonight Dillon Gee (4-3 4.48 ERA) tries to stop this mini losing skid the Mets are on, having lost 4 of their last 5 games.  Opposing Gee will be Phil “Yooz” (5-5 4.96 ERA).

Sorry Mets fans, tonight’s game is on FOX at 7pm.  But as always, the game can be heard on WFAN 660 AM.

On The Rubber

Tonight for the Mets, Dillon Gee (4-3 4.48 ERA) will look for his 5th consecutive quality start.  Gee is 2-0 with a 2.63 ERA over his last 4 starts, with 28 strikeouts in 27 1/3 innings pitched.  The Key for Gee tonight is keeping that changeup down.  As seen last night, if the secondary pitches are left up in the zone, the Yankees hitters are going to take advantage of the Mickey Mouse dimensions to right field and down the line to left.

For the Yanks, Phil Yooz (5-5 4.96 ERA) is coming off his second career complete game, when he out dueled the Tigers All-Everything, Justin Verlander, in a 5-1 victory.  In 4 of Hughes’ last 5 starts, the right hander has given up 2 runs or less.  His only bad start recently was against the Angels on May 28th when he got smashed for 7 runs in 5 1/3 innings.
