VIDEO: Should the Mets Take a Flier on Cespedes’ Baby Brother?

on

Apparently, the apple does not fall far from the tree. In the video below, you’ll see Yoelkis Cespedes Maceo, the baby brother of Yoenis Cespedes, made a wonderful tumbling catch, followed by an excellent throw to complete a double play.

Here’s the video:

Here’s an excerpt from MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez:

Back in Cuba, he is considered one of the top prospects on the island, and some baseball experts have gone as far as to claim he is better than Yoenis was at the same age. Yoelkis hit .304 with five home runs, eight doubles and 25 RBIs in 45 games in the first half of the season for Granma. He posted a .362 on-base percentage and slugged .525 with an .887 OPS. The speedster also hit six triples.

Should the Mets be interested in Yoenis Cespedes? With Curtis Granderson and Jay Bruce on contract years, there may be an opening soon. Let us know in the comments section below.

Yoelkis would have to DEFECT first, go through the VISA process and then get cleared by the MLB to sign.

Then, At 19 he would be subject to the IFA cap as he falls between the 16-23 age group and depending on the team, there is a hard cap, and a team would likely not spend more than a couple mill for him to sign with all the contracts they’ve already agreed to for July 2nd.

That likely means he’s not defecting until he’s close to 23 so he gets a bigger payday.

He ain’t coming any time now.

Thanks for the comment Ted! We know it’s a process, but maybe he can be the heir apparent in four years if Yoenis leaves! What do you think?
