The San Diego Padres head to Citi Field this weekend to play three games against the New York Mets. This will be the first time the Padres appear on the Mets schedule this season. They will play again at Petco Park in mid-July for their final series of the regular season. Both teams have played poorly through the first 66 games, with the Mets posting just a 29-37 record while the Padres sit at 28-38. Several promotional items will be offered to fans throughout the weekend and the secondary market average price for Mets tickets for each of the three games will be well below their season average of $88.62. The series as a whole is a combined 22% below the Mets season average.
6/13 – Andrew Cashner vs Bartolo Colon | Avg. Price: $55.81 | Get-in Price: $14
The series starts Friday night when Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon matches up against the Padres’ Andrew Cashner. The average price for Mets vs Padres tickets is currently $55.81, the lowest of the series and 37% below season average, with a get-in price of $14, also the lowest of the series. The Mets will also host “Free Shirt Friday”, which will offer a t-shirt to all fans in attendance.
Colon has had spurts of greatness this season but his numbers fail to show it. The 41-year-old is 5-5 with a 4.31 ERA but has not dropped a decision in his last five starts. Despite an impressive ERA of 2.13, Cashner has gone just 2-5 over 10 starts this season.
6/14 – TBA vs Zack Wheeler | Avg. Price: $76.65 | Get-in Price: $18
The second game of the series will be played Saturday afternoon and will also feature a postgame concert by rapper and hip-hop artist 50 Cent. The average price for June 14 Mets vs Padres tickets is $76.65, the highest of the series but still 13.5% below season average, with a get-in price of $18. Zack Wheeler will make the start for the Mets while the Padres have yet to announce who will take the mound.
The 24-year-old Wheeler has yet to find consistency this year after allowing 34 runs in 73 innings this season. The right-hander was a top prospect in the San Francisco Giants farm system just two years ago but is still searching for solid ground as he makes the 30th start of his career on Saturday.
6/15 – Ian Kennedy vs Daisuke Matsuzaka | Avg. Price: $74.84 | Get-in Price: $18
The finale of the series is scheduled for Father’s Day on Sunday and will offer dads and kids caps for all fathers and their children in attendance. The average price for Sunday’s Mets vs Padres tickets is currently $74.84 with a get-in price of $18. Daisuke Matsuzaka gets the nod for the Mets on Sunday, while the Padres will start Ian Kennedy.
Matsuzaka has been largely used for relief work this season but will make his fourth start Sunday. The Japanese-born righty has posted a 3-0 record and 2.95 ERA over 39.2 innings this season. Kennedy has struggled this season, going just 5-7 with a 3.63 ERA in 14 starts.
