Let’s Go Matz: Mets Top Reds 6-4 as Magic Number Drops to 3

on

It’s getting close now, and before long you’ll see guys like Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Johnny Monell in the starting lineup.

The Mets, behind Steven Matz and some timely hitting, got back on the right track with a 6-4 win against the last place Reds on Thursday night. The Mets got a pair of RBI from Yoenis Cespedes and Lucas Duda, and David Wright and Daniel Murphy knocked one run in each as well.

Matt allowed three runs on 10 hits with eight strikeouts in 5 2/3 in a no-decision. Erik Goedde, who retired one batter, got the win to improve to 1-1. Addison Reed and Hansel Robles worked the next two innings before Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect ninth.
