Post Game: Mets 2 Nationals 0

on

Niese was excellent tonight in his 7.1 innings.

The Mets defeated the Nationals by a score of 2-0 tonight. Jon Niese pitched excellent going 7.1 innings of shutout ball and earning the win. Niese’s command was excellent tonight as he did not walk a single batter and struck out 7. Jon Rauch came on and finished the 8th inning lowering his own ERA to 3.07 despite having 7 losses this year. Frank  Francisco came on in relief and got the save. Niese has been pitching quite well lately and his season ERA is 3.49 and he has a 10-6 record.

The Mets lone two runs came on an Ike Davis 2 run homer to left field. Ike is up to 21 homers on the season despite having a low batting average. The Mets only had 3 hits the entire night, two from Ike and a triple from Baxter.

Overall it is nice to see games like this even when the team is out of contention because it is still fun to see guys like Niese succeed. I think Niese needs to keep pitching well to show that he has taken a step forward this season, as the past two years Niese has run out of gas at the end of the season.

Ike has also been hitting better recently and it would be nice to see him end up with 25 homers this year. I think more Ike hits the more he cements himself in the fans minds as the 1st basemen of the future.

Game time for tomorrow 1:35 EST and Jeremy Hefner will take on Gio Gonzalez.
