on

The Mets kicked off 2012 interleague play with a blowout loss to the Blue Jays by a final of 14-5.  The score was 14-1 before the Mets scored 4 in the 8th, including a 3 run home run from Scott Hairston.  As Adam Rubin pointed out earlier, the Mets are now 0-4 when wearing costumes to kick off a road trip.

Jonathan Niese started this game and made it through 3 innings.  Niese gave up 8 runs on 8 hits with 2 walks and 4 home runs.  Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia has 2 home runs tonight, both off Niese.  The Mets gave up a total of 5 home runs tonight in the loss.

David Wright went 1-3 tonight lowering his season average to .409.  His OBP is still over .500 but was lowered to .510.

In other news, rookie Rob Carson made his major league debut for the Mets tonight pitching a scoreless 7th inning.  The Mets pitchers did have 11 K’s tonight, including one by Rob Johnson, no that’s not a typo, Mets catcher Rob Johnson also pitched a scoreless inning and had a strikeout.

The Blue Jays scored in all but 3 innings of the game, and put up crooked numbers in all the innings they scored.

The Mets and Blue Jays will face off again tomorrow at 1:07 PM on PIX 11.
