Post-Game: Reds 7 – Mets 3

on

After finishing a 4-6 road trip ending with a sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays, the Mets returned home for a Father’s Day series against the Cincinnati Reds.  The Mets were defeated by a final of 7-3, after the Mets did what they do best and attempted to make yet another comeback.

The scoring opened in the 2nd inning with an inside the park homerun by Jay Bruce off of Dillon Gee, and then the Reds scored another off a Ryan Ludwick double and an error by Scott Hairston.

In the 3rd, Brandon Phillips hit a 2-run homerun to make it a 4-0 game.  Gee would last 6 innings, allowing just those 4 runs, but only 3 were earned.  Gee only gave up 5 hits and struck out 4 throwing 100 pitches.  His season ERA is now 4.43

For the Mets offense, Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Scott Hairston each homered and scored the only 3 runs for the Mets on just 4 hits.  Hairston had a 2 run shot.  Some more good news for the Mets is that 1 of their 4 hits came from Ike Davis, who is now 6-11 with a HR and 6 RBI’s in his last 3 games.

Some bad news for the Mets is that Jason Bay may be heading back to the DL.  Still not sure whether or not this is in fact bad news, but Bay did crash into the wall on the Jay Bruce hit, which allowed him to score.  Hairston would come in to replace Bay.

If Bay is out for long, it will be interesting to see what the Mets do, and whether or not Torres will see more playing time and possibly platoon with Hairston.

The Mets hit the field tomorrow night at 7:15 PM for the 2nd game of the series against the Reds.
