After a lengthy rain delay yesterday afternoon, the Mets might as well have just begged the umpires to call the game. With the 11-3 loss, the Mets creep one game closer to the 10 games under .500 mark once again. On the opening weekend of the NFL season, I think I speak for most Mets fans when I say, thank god football is here.
This afternoon, Chris Young’s dead arm (4-7.4.48 ERA) will face off against Tommy Hanson (12-8 4.40 ERA). The Braves starting pitching has been absurdly good recently, so don’t be shocked when Helicopter Hanson hangs some sliders up there that Mets batters pop in the infield.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 pm. The game can be seen on SNY and heard on WFAN am 660.

Staring Pitching Matchup
Chris Young (4-7.4.48 ERA) gets the call today for the Mets. He finally won a game in his last start. He allowed only one run in five innings of a 5-1 victory in Miami last Sunday after going 1-6 with a 5.37 ERA over his previous 10 starts. Still, he only lasted five innings and this is starting to become the norm for Chris. Getting past the fifth inning with him is asking almost too much.
Tommy Hanson (12-8 4.40 ERA) starts for the Braves today. Hanson is 0-4 with a 7.36 ERA in his last five starts against the Mets. We all remember the five straight curveballs he threw to Ike Davis earlier in the season. How’d that work out? In his last start he allowed two runs in 5 2/3 innings in a 6-0 loss to Colorado on Tuesday.
