Tonight at Citi Field, the Mets look to take the rubber game of this three game series from the Phillies.  Yesterday Chris Young was cruising right along with a 2-0 lead, but once again the 7th inning came along.  a few pitches later, it was 3-2 Phillies.  The Mets bullpen once again coughed runs and the Mets lost 9-2.

Tonight Robert Allen Dickey (12-1 2.15 ERA) will face off against Cole Hamels (10-4 3.08 ERA).  Remember that time RA Tossed his first 1 hitter?  Yea, that was against YOU Mr. Hamels!  All of a sudden with the Phils reeling in the basement of the NL East, Hamels name has been popping up in trade rumors.  I wonder how he’ll react this time out?

Every time R.A. is on the mound, it’s a must watch event.  Almost like when Doc was on the mound in the mid 80’s.  You are looking for something special every time he’s on the mound.  Hopefully there will be another packed house tonight.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 pm.  Tonight’s game can be seen on SNY and heard on WFAN 660 AM

Pitching Matchup

R.A. Dickey (12-1 2.15 ERA) is coming off another incredible outing.  In his last start against the Dodgers, Dickey tossed 8 scoreless innings, allowing just 3 hits while striking out 10.  It was a great rebound performance after the poor outing against the Yankees.  R.A. is making his final start before the All-Star game, and if it’s another gem, it should solidify him as the All-Star Game starter.  In his career, R.A. is 3-3 with a 2.40 ERA against the Phils. The Dickster was named the NL pitcher of the month for June with a 5-0 record and a 0.93 ERA.

Cole Hamels (10-4 3.08 ERA) and his multitude of man purses and super sexy runway wardrobe will face off against Dickster.  It is well documented that the Mets OWN Cole.  in 19 career starts against the Mets, Hamels is 5-10 with a 4.34 ERA.  Hames has pitched well this season.  He has earned his 3rd All-Star Game selection.  In his last 3 outings, Hamels has only allowed 5 earned runs (22 innings), but only has 1 win to show for it.  Excuse me while a shed a tear.
