The Mets return home tonight against the Padres to open up an 11 game home stand.  The Padres come into Citi Field with the 2nd worst record in the NL.  Yesterday Jon Niese turned in his best start of the month with 7.2 innnigs of 1 run ball.  Bobby Parnell and Frank Francisco combined for the final 4 outs.  Cpt. Kirk, DW5 and The Dude all had RBI’s in the Mets 3-1 win over the Pirates.

Tonight Jeremy Hefner gets his first major league start ( 0-1 2.25 ERA) for the Mets, and is opposed by Eric Stults (0-0 2.70 ERA)

On the Mound

Jeremy Hefner (0-1 2.25 ERA)  is making his first major league start for the Mets.  Last week he came in and relieved Miguel Batista after Batista exited after only 2 inning pitched.  Hefner  threw 5 innings and allowed 2 runs.  Hefner had a 2.72 ERA over seven starts at Triple-A Buffalo before being recalled last week.

For the Padres, Eric Stults (0-0 2.70 ERA) get the call.  Stults was picked up a few weeks ago after he was released by the White Sox.  In his last start, Stults allowed 2 runs and 4 hits over 6 2/3 innings.
