For the first time in New York Mets history, the Mets will be coming off a no-hitter in todays afternoon game against the Cardinals. The Mets and Cardinals will face off again today at 4:15 P.M. The question is, how in the world do you follow up a no-hitter?
Today, R.A. Dickey (7-1, 3.06 ERA) will face Lance Lynn (8-1, 2.54 ERA). Dickey is coming off back to back excellent starts. Dickey has 21 K’s in his last 2 starts, and was the first Mets pitcher since Pedro Martinez to have back to back starts with 10+ K’s. Lance Lynn has had a fantastic season thus far, after being converted from a reliever this year. Lynn is tied for the league lead in wins with 8. Lynn is also coming off back to back wins.
After the win last night, the Mets are tied for 2nd in the NL East with the Miami Marlins, and are just a game back of the 1st place Washington Nationals.
New York Mets 1) Kirk Nieuwenhuis LF |
St. Louis Cardinals 1) Rafael Furcal SS |
With Mike Baxter leaving the game last night after running into the left field wall saving Johan’s no-hitter, left field will be occupied by Kirk Nieuwenhuis with Andres Torres in CF. Josh Thole will catch his 2nd game since coming off the DL with that concussion which kept him out the past 2 weeks.
This is a very interesting day in Mets history because it is the first time this team has come off a no-hitter. It will be interesting how the team handles it. Maybe Dickey and get another? We can only hope. As always, Lets Go Mets!
