A video tribute to Jose Reyes? Seriously?

on

This morning  Andy Martino of the Daily News reported that the Mets are planning a video tribute for Jose Reyes when the Marlins make their first trip to Citi Field on April 24th.

Excuse me while I vomit in my mouth.

Are the Mets kidding me?  This is a guy who left the Mets in his prime.  Not at the end of his career.  This was his choice to leave.  Not the Mets.  Considering all the venom that the fans have towards him, there is no way there should be a tribute of any kind.  If fans want a tribute, they can give him a standing ovation the first time he comes up to the plate.  But we all know that he is going to be showered with boos from the less than 20,000 fans who will be in the ballpark that night.

Let’s not forget in an April 7th article for ESPN.com, Adam Rubin had this great report:

“”He said, ‘I really want to play in Miami as long as you pay me $1 more than anyone else. … I really want to make the most money I can,'” team president David Samson told Miami businessmen during a speech Tuesday, according to Miami Today.”

So we are going to give a tribute to the most selfish player of my generation?  Well, if we are going to do that, maybe it should be one of these ones:

Jose’s Final At Bat as a Met: [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_IVMbrum4Q]

Jose’s Music Video “No Hay Amigo” (No Friend) [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VorzKV5g498]
It’s pretty fitting that the 1st line of Jose’s verse translates to “There are no friends, a friend is a dollar in my pocket”.

Instead of giving tributes to other team’s players, how about we concentrate on honoring our own.
