Jody McDonald is a national radio host who many of us have heard over the years simulcast on WFAN.
Today, he plays the roll of Mets critic as he looks at the Amazins’ and their season ahead and gives us his take on today’s edition of #9innings.

Here are his thoughts:
What do you make of this Mets’ team as currently constituted? Are they ready to contend?
The Mets are a contender for the Wild Card. (Nationals very legit favorite for division, tough to beat).
If they’re missing something, what is that piece? Who would be the guy you’d go out and get and why?
Missing piece is SS. Would have made aplay for Asdrubal Cabrera. Would badger the Cubs for Starling Castro if their pithching isn’t great and if Addison Russel looks like he is ready for bigs. Wheeler for Castro could be a win-win for both teams.
How do the Mets compete with the Nationals with that superstar rotation? Is the NL East title a distant pipe dream?
Division championship is a long shot at best. Nats would have to get pretty banged up. Don’t see it.
David Wright had a career-worst year in 2014. Do you think we should expect a marginalized player moving forward or do you have hope in a resurgence?
If last year was his worst and 2008 was his best, I’d take a “split the difference” year for wright this year. .287, 22 HRs, 94 RBIs and 85 Runs.
Who’s the guy who needs to step up to put the Mets offense over the top?
Curtis Granderson is key guy. Must improve in his second year in the NL.
What are your thoughts on the Yankees? Do you hate them?
Used to hate the Yankees, no longer. I pull for the Bombers, but this may be the first year since 1991 that the Mets finish with the better record. (2000 doesn’t count, Yanks winning World Series negates the fact that Mets won more regular season games !!)
If you could have one team as currently constituted, farm system and all, would you rather have the Mets or the Yankees? Why?
I’d take the Mets on entire organizational talent, but if revenue counts too, you have to take Yanks!
What’s the best thing to eat or drink at Citi Field?
Shake Shack and it’s not really close for second!
Finish this sentence. By the end of the season, the Mets will be…
…over.500 for the first time in seven years! (if they get a SS they could threaten 90 wins)
