Well, here we are, just one win away from our first World Series birth in 15 years, thanks to the Mets 5-2 win against Chicago Tuesday night.
Jacob deGrom was awesome, allowing just two solo homers in seven innings of work, and the Mets’ offense took care of the rest. David Wright woke up, as he singled in the first. He was running on the pitch, and Cespedes doubled him in. Kyle Schwarber would homer to tie the game at 1-1.
Daniel Murphy homered for the fifth straight game, giving the Mets a 2-1 lead, but Jorge Soler homered to tie it. The Mets took the lead on a wild pitch on a strikeout to Michael Conforto, allowing Cespedes to score.
Cespedes provided insurance with a double off of Schwarber’s glove, which should have been scored an error, and Daniel Murphy scored the game’s final run on an infield ground ball by Lucas Duda.
