The biggest concern for Jacob deGrom is that he is not eligible for arbitration until 2018 or open free agency until 2021. deGrom could potentially get more money if he does well provided that he is not injured nor does he get into a long-term extension.
The biggest concern is that the Wilpon family should have enough money to pay deGrom what he really deserves. deGrom certainly has a bright future as David Wright’s health is unclear and there are worries over whether or not Yoenis Cespedes will be good for more than just one year. The pitchers are clearly going to be the most important people on the Mets roster for the foreseeable future.
Right now deGrom is in good standing with the New York Mets as he is hoping to lead the Mets to a World Series title and to get the Chicago Cubs out of the picture for the season. However, whether or not he and others on the pitching staff will stick around for a while should be seen carefully.
