When Keith Hernandez speaks, people certainly listen.
Recently, the gold glove first baseman told WFAN that Conforto should get some reps at first base, and the Mets young outfielder didn’t seem terribly opposed to the idea, according to NJ.com. Here’s what Keith had to say.
“I would like to see them, and I don’t know if he’s never played the infield … I would look and see how Conforto looks at first base,” Hernandez said on WFAN. “Just throw him in there in spring training and give him a first baseman’s glove and see what kind of hands he has. Give him some ground balls.”
Here’s Conforto’s thoughts on the matter and what Keith had to say, courtesy of the New York Post.
“I hadn’t heard that,” Conforto said when asked by the New York Post. “I took some reps in college over at first base just for emergency-type situations. I think that’s something that’s very, very interesting, something I’d be open to, obviously. I just want to help the team.”
So let’s turn the microphone over to you, the fans. I don’t see this being a regular situation, unless Lucas Duda were to go down due to injury. Do you think Conforto could make the transition if need be? Vote in our poll and tell us in the comments below.
