Jacob DeGrom tossed seven shutout innings to earn his seventh win of the season against the Yankees last night.
He struck out eight and walked one while allowing four hits. It was his second consecutive outing of seven scoreless innings and has now tossed a season-best 14 consecutive scoreless innings dating to his last start on July 28. DeGrom not allowed a run in three of his last four outings. It was the 18th time in his career that he has not allowed a run in a start.
The 18 such starts in his first 71 career games are the most by a pitcher in franchise history. Dwight Gooden had 17 through his first 71 career starts. Since the All-Star break, DeGrom is 2-1 with a 1.69 ERA (five earned runs/26.2 innings). He’s struck out 26 and walked four. In 27 career starts following the break, DeGrom is now 13-4 with a 2.53 ERA (48 earned runs/170.2 innings).
