The Mets announced today that Travis D’Arnaud has been placed on the disabled list with a partially torn UCL, and surgery is an option.
From the Team: FLUSHING, N.Y., April 11, 2018 – The New York Mets today announced that they have placed catcher Travis d’Arnaud on the 10-Day Disabled List and recalled catcher Tomás Nido from Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League. Nido will wear #3 and is active for tonight’s game in Miami.
D’Arnaud underwent an MRI and clinical exam today at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. He has been diagnosed with a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. Treatment of this injury, including possible surgery, will be determined in the next several days.

In a corresponding move, Tomas Nido has been recalled from Double-A Binghamton. The Mets also have Kevin Plawecki with the big club and Jose Lobaton in the minors should they go that route.
No matter how you slice it, a tough blow for a guy who struggles to stay healthy. He’s played in 100 games just twice since making his big-league debut in 2013.
Now it’s Plawecki and Nido’s turn. Who’s going to seize the opportunity? Plawecki is just 3-for-19 this year, but he’s had a lot of good at-bats. He’s also a considerable improvement over D’Arnaud when it comes to catching basestealers. Plawecki batted .260 with an impressive .364 OBP last season.
As for Nido, he’s impressed in the minors, which is why he’s getting the call over Lobaton. In a brief stint with the Mets last season, he was 3-for-10 with a double and 3 RBI.
