- 2013 Stats: The Mets are no strangers to Ward Melville High School after taking Steven Matz with their first pick in the 2009. Ward Melville was eliminated on Saturday by Baldwinsville in the New York State semifinals, after the Patriots had already won the Long Island Championship. According to Newsday, Kay was 6-1 this year including a victory in the Suffolk County Championship that saw Kay pitch a complete game and also collected three hits at the plate. Committed to UConn. He’s also a Yankee fan, which may play into his signing with the team (you never know).
