Imagine if Ike Davis had been hitting this way all along. He very well may have had a 40 home run season and not been the subject of trade rumors. Whatever the situation, he certainly seems to be making his case to stay, hitting two absolute bombs tonight, making him the first 30- home-run-hitting Met at CitiField since it opened. Make a fuss about HIS off-field habits will ya? Drinks are on Ike tonight!
Jenrry Mejia scratched out his first MLB win tonight, although it took him 96 pitches over 5 innings to do so. While he may have been inefficient, he was effective, and held the Pirates scoreless through his turn on the mound.
David Wright notched himself 2 more hits, bringing himself to only 2 hits away from tying Ed Kranepool as the Mets all-time hits leader. He was tied with Ike Davis at 85 RBI’s for exactly one at-bat.
BREAKING NEWS…Andrew McCutchen is FAST. Holy moley, when he hit his triple I had to rewind it and watch again. To quote Ron Darling: “I could watch McCutchen run all day.” The way he ran around the bases, I honestly think he could beat Jose Reyes in a foot race.
In all seriousness, in addition to watching the Mets fall apart since the All-Star break, it has been quite sad watching the Pirates’ collapse as well. I was actually rooting for them to have a winning season and make the playoffs. I love watching McCutchen play and will be interested to see where he places in the NL MVP race. Hopefully he can stay in it.
