Former Mets’ player and manager Gil Hodges died on this date in 1972. He also played for the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers.
As a Met, Hodges had just 149 at-bats across the 1962 and 1963 seasons, hitting .248 with nine homers and 20 RBI. His time as a manger for the Amazins’ was much more memorable. In four years as Mets’ manager, he was 339-309. That included a 100-win season and a World Championship with the Miracle Mets of 1969.
