This afternoon, New York Mets ace pitcher Matt Harvey, who is on the DL after having Tommy John surgery 6 months ago, tweeted out a picture of himself giving the middle finger while lying in his hospital bed. The picture obviously was symbolizing, “Nothing can stop me, not even an injury”. But naturally some media blowhards took it the wrong way and the picture has been since deleted, as well as Harvey’s own personal twitter account.
Just minutes after the picture was tweeted out, I sent out this tweet:
How long until Harvey deletes the last tweet because Jay Horowitz calls or DM’s him?

Didn’t take long at all. The funny thing is that this isn’t the first time that Harvey has been caught on camera flipping the bird. A few years ago this pic surfaced:
Harvey still has the picture up on his instagram account, which is kind of weird…
It’s amazing how sensitive the Mets are about their “Image”. It’s a total crock. Back in the 80’s, when Jay Horowitz was with the team, the “bad ass” image of the Mets was brought to the forefront. But now everyone has to look the same, act the same, and have absolutely no fun.
Harvey has the NY media in the palm of his hand and when he says jump, they all ask how high. It’s time for the Mets to move on from this terrible PR model that they are trying to shove down everyone’s face, and let the players be themselves. It’s not like Harvey took a picture of himself with a gun hanging out of his pocket.
