FLUSHING, N.Y., April 6, 2022 – The New York Mets today announced that RHP John Curtiss has been signed to a one-year major league contract with a club option for 2023. Curtiss, 29, underwent “Tommy John” surgery on August 27, 2021, performed by Dr. Keith Meister. He will be placed on the team’s 60-Day Injured List.
Curtiss began last season with Miami, pitching to a 2.48 ERA (11 earned runs/40.0 innings) in 35 games before a deadline-day trade to Milwaukee. He appeared in six games with the Brewers before being placed on the 60-Day Injured List with a torn right UCL. He has appeared in 76 career games across five seasons with the Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles Angels, Tampa Bay Rays, Miami Marlins and the Milwaukee Brewers. He owns a 6-2 career record with two saves and a 3.63 ERA (35 earned runs/86.2 innings) with 24 walks and 87 strikeouts.
He was originally selected by the Twins in the sixth round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Texas at Austin.
In addition, the team has selected the contracts of LHP Chasen Shreve and OF Travis Jankowski. In corresponding moves, INF Travis Blankenhorn and RHP Jordan Yamamoto have been designated for assignment.
