Ryan Braun hit his 40th home run in the 6th inning, as he still leads all National League sluggers
The Milwaukee Brewers sent the Mets packing from The Brew City as the New York Mets fell by a score of 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The pitching matchup featured Chris Young for the Mets and Wily Peralta for the Brewers. Both starters pitched well into the fourth inning until the Brewers scored a pair in the bottom of the fourth inning on a pair of solo home runs from both Ryan Braun and Aramis Ramirez.
The Mets could only muster one hit through the next three innings off of Peralta as the Brewers tacked on another run in the sixth inning on Braun’s second home run of the game and 40th of the season.
Young pitched into the seventh inning and ran into some trouble, and left-hander Josh Edgin made it worse by walking the only batter he faced. Manny Acosta came on to strand a pair of runners on first and second as he got Rickie Weeks to fly out to Mike Baxter.
Offensively the Mets drew a walk in the eighth inning off of Peralta, and again in the ninth off of Brewers’ closer John Axford but could do nothing with either one as the Mets fell to the Brewers by a score of 3-0 on three solo home runs from Milwaukee.
Earning his second win of the season was Peralta (2-0) after pitching eight shutout innings while allowing two hits and striking out five. Axford picked up his 29th save while striking out one in the ninth inning. For the Mets Young suffered his eighth loss against four wins and allowed all three runs, while striking out a pair. Edgin, Acosta and Fran Francisco finished off the game for the Mets.
The Mets return to the house of horrors as they return to Citi Field to take on the torrid Phillies tomorrow evening as RA Dickey will look for win number 19 as he is opposed by Cliff Lee, first pitch of the game is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
