Following the biggest series sweep these young Mets have ever been a part of the Amazin’s now find themselves alone atop the NL East.
Led by a strong outing from Bartolo Colon the Mets routed the dreadful Miami Marlins last night to avoid a letdown and continue their path to the division crown. That win for the Mets last night may be the type of win this young team needed to show them not only how good they are, but how good they can be on the road.
So far this year the Mets have a less than impressive road record (18-32), which has kept them from running away with this division. The Mets need to improve this record over the final 56 games of this season since 31 of those games will be played away from Flushing, if not this season will not end with us atop the division. This road trip could be the turnaround the Mets have desperately needed all season. With six games against the Marlins and Rays, the Mets can capitalize on the fact both teams are under .500.
With an easier string of road games here and all the momentum to their backs the Mets need to capitalize on the moment and have a opportunity here to keep their current chokehold on the Nationals, who have begun to show signs of frustration through their young right fielder.
