The Mets Season Thus Far: What If?

on

The 2016 New York Mets Season has not gone as planned and to many has been a great disappointment.

Let’s play a game of What If:

  • What if Lucas Duda did not hurt his back?
  • What if Daniel Murphy was re-signed?
  • What if David Wright took his DeLorean back to 2006?
  • What if Travis D’Arnaud became the all-star catcher the Mets were hoping for when they traded R.A. Dickey for him?
  • What if Matt Harvey was healthy?
  • What if Steven Matz and Noah Syndergaard did not have bone spurs in their elbows?
  • What if Zach Wheeler was able to pitch in games by the All-Star break as originally planned?

It’s very easy to say the Mets would have been back in the World Series again if just a few of the above had come true. But here’s some more:

  • What if Neal Walker doesn’t become Daniel Murphy Regular Season Version only better defensively?
  • What if Bartolo Colon pitches like an overweight old guy from a weekend Softball league?
  • What if Jeurys Familia blows saves left and right?
  • What if Addison Reed makes the 8th inning an adventure?
  • What if James Loney doesn’t come out of nowhere to provide solid defense and clutch offense?
  • What if Jacob deGrom gets hurt?
  • What if the Mets acquire Carlos Gomez at last year’s trade deadline instead of Yoenis Cespedes?

So as you can see there are as many positives to this season as there are negatives. Maybe the reality is the 2016New York Mets are just a .500 team.
