As I eagerly scrolled down the list I saw some familiar names and pure superstars.
I frowned with disappointment when I didn’t see one name in particular. But that frown quickly tuned upside down when I saw Matt Harvey on the list. How well did he fair you ask? Not bad when you consider that he missed a season.
Its other wise a sold list with elite players such a (1) Clayton Kershaw, (2) Mike Trout, (3) Felix Hernandez, (4) Giancarlo Stanton and (5) Chris Sale, just to name a few. The players on the list are no nonsense. I mean some of the players on the lower half of the list are players I’d want on my fantasy team (if I had one).
The only Met on the list is (60) Matt Harvey. Not bad for someone who missed all of the 2014 season right? Just imagine where he’d ranked if he picked up where he left off in 2013 minus the injury. The same can be said for the guy that ranked ahead of Harvey, (59) Masahiro Tanaka. Although he hasn’t missed a full season he did miss some of 2014 (two months) due to partially torn elbow ligament and made it on the list. It just goes to show being injured doesn’t excluded a player from the list. But, I have a bone to pick with Tanaka.
I’m just glad he made such an impressive list filled with amazing players. Now, to the name I was a little shocked not to see.
Our very own David Wright didn’t make the cut. Well, when you sit down and think about it he did play through an injury and had a down year. But, is it really that big of a factor here? One down year? I mean come on. Tanaka didn’t even play a full season and he made it on the list. Is he good? Sure, I’m not disputing that. But at least play a full season and earn your way into that list. It all seems a little odd.
Some would even argue that Wright is on the downside. All I’ll say is, he’s not getting any younger and age can be but not always affect performance. He’s a great player and will bounce back. But it must rub some people the wrong way especially after all his great seasons including his seven All-Star Appearances in 11 seasons, 2 Gold Gloves and 2 Silver Slugger Awards. With all of Wrights accompaniments, he doesn’t get in but someone who hasn’t played a full season does? Hey, that’s just me. He might not have made the cut but, he’s number one in the heart of Mets fans.
As far as Harvey goes, hes expected to only get better. He’s looking better then ever after he threw to live batters for the first time since surgery. And, with the way our starting pitching is shaping up, we’ll have more Mets on that list. Wouldn’t that be cool? The list isn’t a be all end all by any means but at the same time its always cool to have elite players from one team make the list.
What do you guys think? Do you think Wright was deserving of making the list? Are you content with Harvey ranked where he is? Or does Tanaka deserve to make the list? Or who’s name were you disappointed not to see? Let me know in the comment section below.
