Daniel Murphy hit his fourth home run of the postseason and his first of the NLCS with his solo shot in the first inning off Cubs starter Jon Lester on Saturday night.
Murphy has now homered in three consecutive games, joining Donn Clendenon, who homered in Games 2-5 of the 1969 World Series, as the only players in franchise history to homer in three consecutive playoff games.
Here’s more on Murphy:
- Murphy’s four home runs this postseason match a Mets single-postseason record, joining Carlos Delgado in 2006, Mike Piazza in 2000 and Rusty Staub in 1973.
- His home run total is now one shy of the Mets all-time home run record, held by Mike Piazza (5).
- Murphy’s four home runs are tied for the fourth-most ever in a player’s first six career postseason games (and the most by a Met). He trails only Ken Griffey, Juan Gonzalez and Carlos Beltran, who each had five home runs in their first six career postseason games.
• His home run total is tied with Colby Rasmus for the highest total by a Major Leaguer this postseason.
• Murphy has now logged an RBI in five of New York’s six postseason games this season (six RBI total), including at least one in each of the last four
contests - The last Mets player with an RBI in four consecutive playoff games was Edgardo Alfonzo, who had an RBI in five straight games from Game 2 of the NLDS to Game 2 of the NLCS in 2000.
