For years now, we’ve all been #With28 and against him. We sing his praises and then he bobbles a ball and we’re all yelling “TRAID!!!”
There is, however, no denying that Daniel Murphy is one of the hardest working players in baseball. He has been basically a man without an on-field home until the past year or so.
Having been shifted around from 1st base, 2nd base, and even a stint in the outfield, Murph has done everything the Mets have ever asked him to do, and he has done it with a smile and humility.
He’s taken his lumps along the way, but he is always willing to learn, and has worked so hard that he has suddenly found himself near the top of the National League hits leaders’ board. It’s also the first time he suddenly found himself somewhere else…
Murphy was quoted as being both “completely shocked” and “very humbled” when he was called into Terry Collins’ office after yesterday’s win against the Texas Rangers.
He wasn’t summoned for disciplinary action though, he was in fact being told that he was about to make his very first appearance in the All-Star Game.
As happy as I am for Daniel, I am sad that our 7-time All-Star David Wright will not be representing the Mets this year.
So the hard-working nice guy finally got his due. Congratulations Murph, soak up this moment and enjoy it.
We’re all proud of you and will be cheering you on.
