While we all watched the season debut of Matt Harvey yesterday, it was a near flawless performance that saw him go six innings, strike out nine, walk one and allow zero runs.
More importantly, he escaped unharmed and looks to have his full repertoire ready to go for 2015. But not everyone thought his performance was flawless.
Pedro Martinez, who pitched for the Mets and now works for MLB Network, leant his thoughts on Twitter about The Dark Knight, and he said Roger Clemens might be a good guy to look at for Harvey to improve his game even more.
Harvey has to look at Clemens for fine-tuning his mechanics. Clemens was a veteran guy that understood his mechanics and knew what to do

While I appreciate Pedro’s critique and opinion, I’m hard-pressed to take it seriously. Matt Harvey has always been a bull, and as Mike Francesa pointed out on Thursday, he has the third lowest WHIP in Major League history for a guy through his first 36 major league starts. In terms of mechanics, I think he’s doing just fine.
If you ask Harvey, I am sure he’d appreciate Pedro’s comments. He’s a perfectionist who’s always looking to improve, and he is not happy unless he’s flawless. Case in point, he was pissed off at how the game began yesterday, but that could be chalked up to pitching his first game since undergoing Tommy John Surgery, which is something a lot of pitchers in MLB could understand.
I don’t expect Harvey to be the CY Young this year, but Thursday’s start was very encouraging. We’ll all be counting down the hours until he returns to Citi Field for his first home start of the year on Tuesday (weather permitting).
Has the Dark Knight risen? Only time will tell.
