The Mets beat the Padres tonight by a score of 6-2. Jeremy Hefner was excellent tonight as he pitched 6 innings of one run ball. The best part about it was it only took him 72 pitches to do it. Josh Edgin added 2 scoreless innings in relief. Edgin also looked excellent tonight despite only recording 1 strikeout. Parnell came on to attempt to finish the game off but after giving up a lead off homer and displaying general control problems, Frank Francisco was called on. Francisco was called on. Francisco got a double play to end the game.
Some of the offensive highlights included a 4 for 4 game from Daniel Murphy, and 2 RBI double from Jordany Valdespin, and a 5 walk game from Mike Baxter, who didn’t even record a true at bat.
Overall Hefner has pitched admirably his last 3 starts. With Johan Santana return, it is possible that Hefner will not be making his next start. I would guess he will return to AAA Buffalo.
Tomorrrow Matt Harvey will try to clinch a series win tomorrow as he takes on veteran righty Jason Marquis. Game time tomorrow is 4:05 pm EST time.
