The Mets defeated the Dodgers by a score of 9-0 tonight. Tonight’s game was a combination of excellent pitching and an explosion of offense. With this win, the Mets moved to 6 games above .500 and they took sole possession of 2nd place in the NL East.
The Mets offense exploded tonight for the 2nd time in 3 games. Ruben Tejada had a 4 hit night and Daniel Murphy had 5 RBIs to go along with a 3 run homer. If Tejada and Murphy continue heating up, this lineup is going to be very dangerous down the stretch. Lucas Duda and Josh Thole also had multi hit games, and Dickey added a single of his own.
After a rough start Sunday night against the Yankees, Dickey returned to dominant form yet again tonight. Dickey went 8 shutout innings allowing only 3 hits, walking one and striking out 10. Like Cohen said on the broadcast tonight, Dickey is almost a guarantee to start the All Star game for the National League. Dickey’s 12 wins and 2.15 ERA both lead active pitchers in the National League. Jeremy Hefner added a scoreless 9th to complete the shutout.
Dickey’s starts this year have become must watch TV, and it lived up to the hype tonight. Watching RA tonight was yet again a treat. One of my favorite moments of the game was when Dickey hit Dee Gordon after Tejada was hit.
While the Dodgers have been struggling, it’s nice to see the Mets win the first two games of a west coast series. Tomorrow Johan Santana takes the mound as the Mets look the clinch a series win against the Dodgers.
Game Ball: This is a no brainer- RA Dickey for his stellar 8 inning gem.
Turning Point of the Game: Daniel Murphy’s two RBI double. This hit put the game out of reach for the Dodgers.
Game time fortomorrow is 7:15 eastern time, 4:15 Los Angeles local time. The game will be nationally broadcasted on FOX.
