Pre-Game: Mets (48-52) @ D’Backs (50-50)

on

The Mets look to bounce back after yet another loss, losers of all but two since coming out of the all star break just over two weeks ago. The Mets send Chris Young to the mound for a potential matchup against Arizona outfielder Chris Young (no relation), as the Diamondbacks counter with former Yankee Ian Kennedy.

Today’s game can be seen on PIX 11 this afternoon in the New York Metropolitan TV market with Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez, and heard on SportsRadio 66 WFAN on the air with Howie Rose and Josh Lewin with first pitch at 8:10 p.m. Eastern Time.

Mets Lineup

A pair of hitters for the Mets are hitting .500 against Ian Kennedy, David Wright has owned Kennedy with four hits in eight at bats with a pair of home runs and five RBI, Jason Bay is the other .500 hitter going 2-for-4 against the Diamandbacks right-hander. Scott Hairston is 1-for-6 but the one was a three run home run, and Andres Torres has struggled with only four hits in 23 at bats vs. Kennedy.

Diamandbacks Lineup

TBA

Despite playing in the same division when Chris Young was a member of the San Diego Padres, not many members of the current D’Back roster have faced Young. Justin Upton is 4-for-10 with a double while Stephen Drew is 4-for-13 with a pair of doubles and one driven in.

Pitching Matchup

Chris Young (2-4; 3.91 ERA) The Mets right-hander makes his tenth start of the season and comes off of a seven inning outing against the Nationals in which he didn’t get a decision. In that last start Young fanned a season-high seven batters in the game and looks to improve on that heading forward into today’s start.

Ian Kennedy (8-8; 4.30 ERA) The Diamandbacks starter goes for his third straight win in as many starts after picking up W’s against Cincinnati and Colorado. During both games he finished off eight-inning performances in which he walked none and struck out seven batters in each.

July 28 in Mets History

The Mets are 5-5 in their last 10 games on July 28, before that the Mets had won five straight for a total of 10-5 record since 1996.

2011: The Mets traded longtime centerfielder Carlos Beltran to the San Francisco Giants for minor leaguer Zack Wheeler.

2000: The Mets made a pair of trades, most notably acquiring Mike Bordick from Baltimore for Melvin Mora after Rey Ordonez suffered a season-ending injury. The Mets also sent former 1st Overall pick Paul Wilson and outfielder Jason Tyner to Tampa Bay to for Rick White and Bubba Trammell.

1986: New York smashed their division rivals the Chicago Cubs 9-2 at Shea Stadium as Bobby Ojeda pitched seven innings allowing a pair of solo home runs to Ron Cey and Ryne Sandberg. Kevin Mitchell and Darryl Strawberry homered for the Mets as Howard Johnson chipped in with three RBI.
