R.A. Dickey (1-0, 3.00 ERA) will take the hill tonight as he faces Cliff Lee (0-0, 1.50 ERA) for his 2nd start of the season. After starting the season 4-0, the Mets dropped the last two games in their series against the Washington Nationals, and will look to end that losing streak. That may be a bit tougher tonight with the absence of David Wright from tonights lineup for the 2nd straight game with that broken pinkie. Cliff Lee is also 2-0 with a 0.45 ERA and 17 k’s in 3 career starts against the Mets.
This Day in Mets History
2006 – In a matchup against Livan Hernandez and the Washington Nationals, the Mets pounded four homeruns, one each from their 3-4-5-6 hitters as Carlos Beltran, David Wright, Carlos Delgado and Cliff Floyd all went deep. Earning his tenth and final win in a Mets uniform was, you guessed it, Victor Zambrano who allowed three runs on six hits in five innings in the Mets 13-4 win over the Nats.
2005 – The Mets won an 11 inning marathon against the Houston Astros at Shea Stadium, Roger Clemens started for the Astros but surprisingly didn’t hit Mike Piazza as Piazza finished the night 0-for-3. Kaz Ishii started for the Mets and allowed two hits over seven innings before Roberto Hernandez, Braden Looper and Mike DeJean shut down the ‘Stros lineup before Jose Reyes could get the game-winning hit in the 11th in a 1-0 victory.
2000 – The last time the Mets faced the Phillies on April 13, they defeated the Phils by a score of 2-1. Jay Payton and Derek Bell had three hit games while Rick Reed allowed one run over seven innings. Turk Wendell and Dennis Cook pitched a scoreless eighth before Armando Benitez shut out the Phillies in the ninth to seal his third save of the season.
